The Newtown Middle Eastern Dance Centre (NMEDC) has been offering belly dance classes for more than ten years. Whether you just want to have fun and improve your fitness, or seriously pursue the dance, we have a class to suit you!
Class information
New Beginners courses run for a six week term at the discount price of
$99.00. To enrol, download

Other classes are $19.00 per one-hour class unless otherwise noted. Annual, 6 months and monthly memberships are available, entitling you to unlimited classes plus discounts on workshops and events.

Classwear
Preferably a skirt or leggings worn on your hips, a top that
doesn't obscure the teacher's view of your hip movements and
a scarf for your hips. Bare belly is entirely optional!
Teachers
Leonie, school principal, teaches most classes. See About Leonie for biographical and teaching information.
Ruth has been teaching beginners and intermediate classes at NMEDC for ten years. Ruth is a professional dancer who works at various venues around Sydney. She brings a background in classical ballet to her classes which emphasise technique through a syllabus of drills that she has devised to develop strength, control, flexibility and isolation. Ruth created and choreographed 'NOT the Nutcracker Suite' for our 2007 end-of-year concert, 'NOT Cinderella' in 2008 and 'NOT Little Red Riding Hood' in 2009. She designs the school and Festival websites and is Festival archivist.

Xmas Show
We start rehearsing this years extravaganza on Saturdays 11.30 - 1.30 from 17 July. Rehearsals
replace the regular classes at those times. Pilates class is unaffected. Stay tuned for more info about
"NOT Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs" and mark it in your diaries for 5 December!
Next New Beginners Course
The next New Beginners course will be on Tuesdays from 7-8pm from 31 August.
To enrol, download the Enrolment Form and
return it by 24 August, 2010. Minimum numbers are required for the course to proceed!
